YouTube has a little something for everyone. What began as a means for people to publish low-quality reviews, memes, and skits has turned into the web’s second most-visited domain, with over 1 billion hours of content consumed every single day.
A small fraction of that content revolves around design and landscaping. You can learn how to build a fire pit, swimming pool, or fishpond; how to decorate your home for an upcoming Super Bowl party, and much more. It’s advice that could save you a lot of money and help you to design the home of your dreams.
In the following guide, we’ll look at some of the best YouTube design shows that focus on patios and outdoor spaces. We don’t work with any of these channels and their inclusion here is not an endorsement—we just like their content and think it can help you with your green-fingered adventures.

Project Build Stuff
Project Build Stuff is one of those “how to build” channels that produce amazing construction projects and is watched by people who will probably never actually build the things they’re learning about. It’s mesmerizing content—entertaining as well as informative.
Whether you want to learn how to build a DIY fire pit or just watch in awe as someone else goes through the motions, this is the channel for you.
Project Build Stuff shows you how to craft furniture and accessories for inside and outside your home, including a fire pit, outdoor storage shed, dining table, and serving board. It also explores sanding techniques, branding, joining, and the safe use of epoxy resin.
Project Build Stuff is still active at the time of writing and while it has only been going for a year or so, it’s growing at a phenomenal rate and will likely be much bigger in time.

Lowe’s Home Improvement
Most commercial YouTube channels are very active for a period of several months and then don’t post any content for years. You can almost picture the moment that executives gathered around a table and announcing they were going to invest heavily into building a successful YouTube channel, as well as the moment they realized it wasn’t working and promptly disappeared off the platform.
Such is the case with many companies in the home improvement sector. Thankfully, though, Lowe’s hasn’t fallen victim to this, and it is still devoting time and money to creating informative and entertaining YouTube content.
You can watch videos on everything from making a DIY dog washing station to building your own mini-golf course. And because we’re dealing with a massively successful brand and not a single YouTuber, all of the videos are short (usually just a few minutes) and professional.

The Property Maintenance Channel (Gosforth Handyman)
Gosforth Handyman or “The Property Maintenance Channel” is a UK-based landscaping and renovation channel run by a jack of all trades. The series that caught our attention the most concerns the complete renovation of a house and grounds, showing everything from structural problems and soundproofing to dealing with outdoor pipes, selecting plans, and building a garden from scratch.
The content is all about a UK build and includes UK terms, houses, and procedures, but it’s still very relevant to US homeowners and is also incredibly entertaining for anyone involved in building or renovating their own home.
If you love watching property makeover shows and want to see more detailed and intricate insights into the process, this channel is perfect.

Paradise Restored Landscaping & Exterior Design
Paradise Restored Landscaping & Exterior Design looks at some of the more niche aspects of renovating and designing your backyard and patio. It produces high-quality and helpful videos and doesn’t get anywhere near as much exposure as it deserves.
Some of the videos covered by this channel include a complete shed transformation, an under-deck waterproofing solution, and whether you need a cover for your hot tub. Our personal favorite series looks at outdoor furniture and can help you to find the right pieces for your home based on your budget and style.
One of the channel’s most popular videos covers low-cost patio design ideas for homeowners with limited space. It is an issue that we have touched upon several times here on the Seven Summers blog and one that is clearly important to millions of American homeowners who don’t have as much space as they would like.
This is just a snippet of what you can expect when you visit Paradise Restored Landscaping & Exterior Design. Click the link below to visit the channel and learn more.

Premier Outdoor Living
Unlike some of the other channels on this list, Premier Outdoor Living is devoted entirely to gardens and patios. It’s all about the exterior and not the interior, and that means you have dozens of hours of gardening and landscaping content to explore.
You’ll learn how to build a deck, install privacy screens, find the right lighting, and deal with the many issues that can appear when you’re renovating your garden.
One of the most helpful videos is an 8-part series that takes viewers through a complete backyard overhaul. If you’re wondering how much work goes into building a high-quality patio, watch the first part of that series here.

Mr. Build It
“Courage and Sweat” is the tagline for Mr. Build It and you will find both things in abundance. The channel is dedicated to home and garden renovations and delves into some impressive DIY projects and renovations, including a complete kitchen overall and a home bar.
Most of the channel’s videos are devoted to interior builds, including kitchen and bathroom renovations. But there are also videos that explore grill stations, raised garden beds, fire pits, and other outdoor essentials.
In one of the channel’s most-viewed videos, the family completes a major patio overhaul. Over 2.6 million people watched them turn a sparse and desolate area into a paved patio complete with a homemade fire pit and seating area.

Self Sufficient Me
As the name suggests, Self Sufficient Me is a channel devoted to self-sufficiency. It’s less about patio design and outdoor furniture and more about producing crops and building compost heaps. But there is a lot of useful tips here for everyday gardeners and homeowners, even if they have no interest in growing fruits, herbs, and vegetables.
For instance, Self Sufficient Me explores ways that you can save water, space, and money when renovating your garden. You’ll learn how to build your own flower beds and fences, as well as how to keep chickens and ducks.
And if you do want to grow your own food—as is the case for many American households—then it has all the information that you need. Contrary to what you might think, growing your own food doesn’t require a lot of money. It doesn’t even require a lot of time. You just need a little knowledge, some patience, and the right care.
Once you harvest and taste your first vegetable, herb, or fruit, you’ll be hooked!

House & Home
House & Home publishes short-form content related to interior and exterior decorating. As with Lowe’s Home Improvement, it’s a commercial YouTube channel and manages to nail the professionalism while producing very short content. It’s not as detailed as some of the other channels on this list, but you can still learn a lot about decorating and DIY.
If you’re looking for more information about building fire pits, designing patios, and choosing the right furniture, you should check with some of the other channels on this page. If you have most of the basics down and want to start venturing inside the house, with design ideas for kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, and more, House & Home is well worth a look.

Other Landscaping YouTube Channels
If you have ever wanted to turn your green fingers into a new business opportunity, why not start your own landscaping business? It’s a huge leap, but if you have the skills and the passion, you can make it work. That’s the subject of a two-part video series by UpFlip, a YouTube channel that focuses on business launches.
Click the lines to watch Part 1 and Part 2.
We also recommend checking out The Gardening Channel with James Prigioni and Simplify Gardening, both of which are established channels with a wealth of existing content to explore and new videos being added all of the time.
These channels and videos are just scratching the surface of what YouTube has to offer. It’s the best place to learn about building, renovating, designing, and restructuring your outdoor space. And if you learn all the basics, become a skilled gardener, and start working on creative projects, you can even think about launching a YouTube channel of your own!
